Buried beneath the sun-baked rock of Big Bend National Park, a colossal secret lay hidden for millions of years—until a group of geology students recently unearthed the rare bones of the park's latest prehistoric prize. Led by professors Dr. Jesse Kelsch and Dr. Thomas Schiller, students from the Sul Ross State University (SRSU) geology program visited the sprawling southwest Texas park in March to study rock layers and geological formations from the Cretaceous to the Eocene periods.
